The Federal Defenders of the Middle District of Georgia, Inc., is a private, non-profit corporation based in Macon, Georgia, with a branch office in Columbus, Georgia. Our sole mission is to represent indigent persons accused of federal criminal offenses. A thirteen-member Board of Directors oversees operation. Although the Court appoints us to represent individuals, we are completely independent from the local federal judiciary and funded by a sustaining grant awarded by Congress under the Criminal Justice Act.
We are located in the Middle District of Georgia. While the majority of our clients are charged with drug related offenses; our attorneys also represent clients facing a wide variety of federal charges, including bank robbery, fraud, counterfeiting, pornography, assault, and firearm offenses. We also represent persons accused of misdemeanors which occur on federal lands, including Robins Air Force Base, Ft. Benning and the National Parks and Forests in this district.
When we are unavailable to be appointed to represent a defendant in a criminal case, the Middle District of Georgia has a Criminal Justice Act (CJA) Panel of highly qualified attorneys who accept appointments.
